Hi! I’m Meredith Buckanavage, a Media and Journalism major at the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media with a minor in Public Policy at UNC-Chapel Hill.
I was born and raised in Mint Hill, North Carolina, where my interest in storytelling has grown from a love of learning about people, communities, and the stories behind the things we care about.
I’m especially passionate about sports journalism and multimedia storytelling. I’m a huge football fan (Go Seahawks!), and sports have played a major role in shaping the kind of journalist I hope to become.
What interests me most about sports media is everything that happens beyond the final score – the people, personalities, communities, and experiences that make sports meaningful. I enjoy telling those stories through writing, photography, and videography.
Through my time at Hussman, I’ve developed experience in reporting, interviewing, editing, photography, and visual storytelling while learning how to create work across multiple platforms.
I have also had the opportunity to gain hands-on broadcast experience through Queen City News’ Lifestlye show “Positively Charlotte,” which helped me further develop my skills in producing and telling stories for a news audience.
As I prepare to graduate in May 2027, I’m continuing to build my experience and explore where journalism can take me. While sports are a major interest of mine, I enjoy covering a variety of subjects and finding compelling stories wherever they may be.
Ultimately, I hope to build a career that allows me to stay curious, connect with people, and tell stories that audiences genuinely care about.
